Ariadna Gutierrez and Pia Wurtzbach

Ariadna Gutierrez responds to the backlash she's received after her recent statement about Pia Wurtzbach.

Miss Colombia 2015 Ariadna Gutierrez is breaking her silence after receiving negative comments from netizens about a statement she said about former Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach that went viral online.

In a post made by pageant website Pageanthology 101, the beauty queen allegedly responded to a supporter on Instagram that explained her comment about the Filipina beauty queen during an interview.

According to the fan, the “ghost” comment is a popular Colombian expression that meant Ariadna personally didn't see Pia during the competition. It was only during the finals that she realized that the Philippine-bet was a fierce competition.

“I know! Exactly what I said but people don't even understand what I said,” Ariadna apparently said.

“Thank you for saying it how it is. I feel so sad for the super nice Filipinos I've met in my life. They are not like this.”

While it is unclear where the comment was taken, Ariadna seemingly responded to her critics on her personal social media account.

On October 8, she posted the quote, “Learn to use the criticism as fuel and you will never run out of energy.”

In the trending interview, Ariadna claimed to say that she didn't notice Pia until the competition.

“I used to go with the Latinas and we sat next to the Asians and I did not notice her,” she told Miss Universe 2017 First Runner-up Laura Barjum of Colombia.

“She was rarely mingling with the other girls and I couldn't see her qualities until the finals.”
